Explosives Detection – When Seconds Count

Explosives Detection – When Seconds Count

Anyone who has watched television or movies has seen the quintessential scene where the hero locates explosives and is able to successfully disarm them with only a second or two remaining. Life is not like the movies, and when explosives are involved, law enforcement wants explosives detection equipment it can trust. They have found the ‘perfect’ tool in the CSECO Buster K910B Density Meter.

Why is detection imperative? The answer is obvious. If an armed explosive is not detected and is able to detonate, the damage to life and the surrounding area could be devastating. If US Customs and Border Patrol agents, state and local law enforcement are to avoid this type of scenario, it is important to locate any possible explosives so they can be safely disarmed and disposed of properly. Without tools like the Buster density meter, contraband detection including locating explosives is a difficult prospect.

The Buster K910B is considered by many in law enforcement to be the ‘gold standard’ to use for explosive detection, contraband detection, drug interdiction, or narcotics interdiction. They know the Buster is the safest product and has been tested over time in nearly all possible environments for over 30 years. Simply put, the Buster is safe, well-tested, easy to use, dependable and effective.

The Buster is more than a contraband detector. It employs a low-intensity gamma radiation emitter together with scintillation detector to quickly scan vehicles, shipping containers and residences to locate concealed contraband. In most cases the inspector is able to scan a vehicle in less than five minutes and receive a positive indicator if contraband of any type is present. A room can be scanned in less than ten minutes.

The Buster with Rad-Aware® radiation detection technology is able to recognize the presence of radioactive materials. If a dirty-bomb was detonated, first responders would be able to establish a safe perimeter because they will be able to determine the area where the contamination is and where it ends.

Unlike other explosive detection equipment, the Buster was developed by CSECO founder Patrick J. Campbell with input from end users – the men and women of the US Customs and Border Patrol who would use the product on a daily basis. They worked together to design a product that uses radioactive isotopes to locate hidden contraband. Originally the focus was on cash and narcotics, but the Buster is able to locate so much more whether searching through wood, metal or reinforced plastics. The Buster allows law enforcement personnel to locate these items without damaging the item being inspected.

What happens if an explosive device is detected by US Customs and Border Patrol or other law enforcement personnel? Those specially trained to handle explosives will be called in. These people will be able to take control of the situation, disarm or dispose of any explosive that is located.

The US Customs and Border Patrol agents, along with other law enforcement officials, are tasked with protecting the citizens, food and property of those in the United States. With the assistance of the Buster K910B with Rad-Aware®, their task is not as difficult because they have a contraband detector they can trust.
