A Density Meter Isn’t All You Need for Narcotics Detection

A Density Meter Isn’t All You Need for Narcotics Detection

Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) understands the need to locate and seize narcotics and produces a density meter to help with this task. To locate illegal drugs and any other type of contraband, sometimes you need just one tool like the Buster K910B Density Meter; at other times you may need a couple of tools to determine positive results for your contraband-busting job.

CSECO has been around for over 30 years. Its first product is the Buster K910B Density Meter, aka “Buster.” In the early 1980s, CSECO founder Patrick J. Harris designed and developed this tool with direct input from Customs and Border Protection agents. Since the Buster was first introduced and gained popularity, competitors have been trying to emulate it by coming up with their own density meters. However, most law enforcement agents agree that the Buster is still their choice tool in their fight against drugs and smuggling.

The Buster emits a low-intensity gamma radiation and scintillation detector. This type of technology allows the Buster to scan different materials at a fast rate. It can scan through wood and metal, but also easily scans through reinforced plastic, concrete, and other materials. In just a matter of minutes the Buster will provide accurate results. For instance, it can scan an entire vehicle within five minutes and an average-sized room in a home or office within 10 minutes. That’s how versatile and quick the Buster is, and that’s something you don’t expect when using contraband detectors that use microwave, millimeter wave, radio wave and ultraviolet wave technology. Such devices have limited scanning capabilities and you’re not sure whether the results they provide are accurate and reliable, or not.

The Buster sends an alert to the user through its clear LCD display, providing accurate and relevant data while scanning. It also has an audible alarm which sounds off to alert officers to the presence of contraband. The Buster can recognize the difference between objects with a natural density (or void) and objects with an artificial or abnormal level of density. Once the Buster reads an anomaly it is a tell-tale sign that contraband is most likely hidden inside that object.

Using the Buster alone provides you with relevant and accurate results. But the Buster is not the only tool you need for narcotics detection. Sometimes you encounter inaccessible areas and it requires you to use another reliable tool. Fortunately, CSECO also manufactures the Perfect Vision® V20 Videoscope Inspection System. It is considered the best videoscope to beat other fiberscopes and videoscopes on the market today.

The Perfect Vision® V20 comes in one piece, which means you don’t need any cumbersome attachments that use cables. Like the leading fiberscopes, the Perfect Vision® V20 also has a long, thin (2m x 6mm) flexible tungsten armored shaft, 2-way articulation, and powerful built-in LED lighting. Its most prominent feature though, is the 5-inch LCD display, which enables the user to clearly see what is being inspected, without losing sight of their surroundings. The screen comes with a push-button dimming and digital zoom that provides 10x higher resolution compared to other fiberscopes.

The videoscope itself isn’t made of glass fibers; therefore it is made to be more durable. Another distinction is that the Perfect Vision was the first videoscope to be certified by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL). This allows the agents to safely use the videoscope in hazardous areas such as fuel tanks. You can insert the Perfect Vision® V20’s shaft into the gas or fuel tank for inspection and not have to worry about safety.

Law enforcement often needs a complete set of tools to aid them in their efforts to combat drugs and smuggling. For this they can trust CSECO’s CTK-Personal Took Kit. Like the Buster, the kit was conceived through the input of Customs and Border Protection officers. The CTK-Personal Took Kit provides law enforcement agents with everything they need to inspect, probe, extract or open materials suspected of hiding contraband.

This handy tool kit consists of the following:

  • 3/8″ x 8″ a stainless steel custom inspection probe
  • 3/8″ x 16″ stainless steel custom inspection probe
  • multi-purpose Handheld Utility Tool (which includes screwdrivers, scissors, pliers, etc.)
  • Maglite flashlight

A durable custom carrying case secures all the tools which make it easy to carry during inspections.

Although CSECO’s Buster K910B Density Meter provides fast, accurate, and relevant results, sometimes circumstances require you to use other CSECO tools in your narcotics detection or search for other contraband. Using the Buster K910B Density Meter plus the Perfect Vision® V20 Videoscope Inspection System and the CTK-Personal Tool Kit means there is a higher chance of accuracy as well as more effective results. Having a complete line of excellent contraband detection tools from CSECO to use with your density meter means more effective and productive efforts against drug trafficking and smuggling.
