How to Use a Density Meter with Other Contraband Detectors

Density meters and contraband detectors have become more enhanced and sophisticated. They are able to detect hidden contraband more effectively than ever. Since Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) introduced the Buster K910B Density Meter, accurately locating contraband has remarkably improved.

CSECO’s founder Patrick J. Campbell and a team of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents worked together to come up with the Buster, the most accurate, reliable, and safest contraband detection tool to emerge on the market. Since the Buster came out, many imitations have been made, but not any of them can match the performance of the Buster.

Buster’s cutting-edge technology is a major part of its success. It beams low-intensity gamma radiation and has a scintillation detector that allows anti-drug unit officers, interdiction agents, and CBP agents to scan different materials with minimal hassle. They no longer have to tear materials away in order to locate contraband. Materials made of wood, reinforced plastic, metal, cardboard, rubber and others, the Buster can scan through them all. Other density meters used for contraband detection use other technologies such as radio wave, ultraviolet wave, millimeter wave, and microwave. They are able to scan only a limited number of materials.

The Buster can detect the differences in density between objects that have a natural void and objects wherein the contraband has been stuffed. Most of the time, the Buster’s reading will remain normal as it scans objects having a natural density. These spaces include tires, gas tanks, doors, walls, furniture, and many others; these spaces have been used by smugglers as compartments to hide contraband such as narcotics or cash.

Once the Buster sends a signal that the density is abnormally higher than usual (typically 2x the normal reading), then it’s an indication that contraband may have been hidden behind the surface. The Buster sends the user an audible alarm and displays the reading on the LCD screen.

Aside from the Buster, CSECO has also introduced a variety of other contraband detectors. The most recent is the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System. Interdiction officers can use this along with Buster to help them scan inaccessible locations like inside fuel tanks once contraband has been indicated.

Unlike the other leading fiberscopes or videoscopes, the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope comes in one piece so that CBP officers and other law enforcement agents can use it without bothersome attachments such as cables or cameras. The other great thing about the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope is that it has a 5-inch multi-directional high-resolution color LCD screen that enables the officers to view clearly the location they’re scanning without squinting through a lens. It also has a push-button for lighting/dimming and digital zoom. The Perfect Vision’s shaft is long, thin, flexible and certainly fuel-resistant that makes it safe to use. The shaft can be inserted through dashboards, gas tanks, and many other previously inaccessible locations. And, the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope was the first videoscope to be certified by the Underwriters Laboratory (UL).

Having the Buster in your arsenal of contraband detection equipment will put you ahead of others, but it doesn’t hurt that you should also have at least one other contraband detector to facilitate your job even better. The density meter and the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope will make a perfect team in your arduous but worthwhile fight against illegal drugs and smuggling.
