How Does the Buster Density Meter Work?

Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Co. (CSECO) has been developing and manufacturing high quality density meters, contraband and explosion detection tools for almost 30 years. Its trademark product is the Buster K910B Contraband Detector and Density Meter, aka Buster for short.

The Buster K910B has been widely used by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents and law enforcement officers for over 30 years. In fact, a group of CBP agents worked directly with CSECO founder Patrick J. Campbell in developing and creating this sophisticated explosives and narcotics detection equipment. Since the Buster was developed, many competitors have developed similar explosives and narcotics detection tools, but nothing can compare with the quality of the Buster, considered to be the ‘gold standard’ in density meters and contraband detection equipment.

The Buster uses a low intensity gamma radiation emitter and scintillation detector that quickly scans a variety of materials (e.g., wood, metal or plastics) and identifies hidden contraband items. This great tool can do all this without damaging the surface that’s being scanned, unlike other detection tools with millimeter wave, radio wave, ultra-violet or microwave technologies.

Additionally, the Buster is constructed and designed with the end users in mind. It allows an interdiction officer or inspector to find out if a suspected vehicle positively carries narcotics, illegal substances, explosives, “dirty bombs,” firearms, and other contraband in less than five minutes. The Buster also enables inspectors to examine and scan an average-sized room in less than ten minutes.

Many law enforcement, Customs and Border Protection, as well as interdiction officers widely use the Buster K910B Density Meter. The reason they choose the Buster is because they trust its quality, effectiveness, durability and dependability. It’s something that they can absolutely rely on during their narcotics searches in particular, especially when a K-9 unit is not available. Although the Buster Density Meter can in no way replace the drug-and-bomb-sniffing of trained dogs, the product proves to be an effective and competent alternative. In fact, many interdiction officers use the Buster while they are working with these trained canines.

There is an added feature to the Buster K910B. It is called Rad-Aware® radiation detection technology. This feature provides the safety factor not only for the handler but also the other people near the inspection area. The Rad-Aware® establishes safety perimeters for inspectors or responders who identify a possible dirty bomb detonation.
