Are All Brands of Narcotics Interdiction Equipment the Same?

The combination of technology and brilliant minds helped pave the way for the introduction and subsequent improvements on narcotics interdiction equipment over the years. Since Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) introduced the Buster K910B density meter, it has definitely upped the efforts of stemming drug trafficking, illegal smuggling, and other related crimes.

Since the Buster came out, it has been praised by the law enforcement circle calling it the “gold standard” of contraband detection equipment. The effectiveness of the Buster has been proven time and time again. It has helped the Customs and Border Protection agency seize and amass millions of dollars worth of smuggled narcotics as well as cash, weapons, and explosives, right from the checkpoint.

Inevitably, with the success of the Buster came competitors who launched their own brand of density meters and scopes. It goes without saying that not all brands of narcotics interdiction equipment are the same. Manufacturers are trying to outdo each other by adding other features which they claim to be something which they developed. While other contraband detection tools have given consumers more choices, these competitors have only made CSECO significantly improve its line of narcotics/contraband detection equipment.

The Buster K910G Density Meter is the latest version of the Buster K910B. Functionality-wise, the K910G is no different than the K910B. It has still the low-intensity gamma radiation emitter and scintillation detector to quickly and accurately scan items or areas that are suspected of carrying narcotics or other contraband underneath the surface.

Like the Buster K910B, the Buster K910G still has the ability to identify a variety of hidden contraband items aside from narcotics and other illegal drugs: jewelry, alcohol, weapons, and even explosives. Other contraband detection equipment that uses microwave, radio wave, ultraviolet wave, and millimeter wave cannot do all of the things that the Buster does.

Other density meters have lead-based internal components which could cause harm to the user and to the environment. The Buster K910G, on the other hand, is completely lead-free. The K910G now also has a 7.5 microcuries (.28MBq) source, which means the Buster is now less radioactive compared to the 10 microcuries (.37MBq) source of its nearest competitor.

While the Buster is not considered as a tool used to detect explosives, it has the ability to detect harmful levels of radioactive elements which are found in weapons like dirty bombs, thanks to its “RAD-Aware” technology. When the Buster detects radiation, it allows the first responders to set up safety perimeters for other inspectors, as well as civilians, to keep them from radioactive leaks. Other density meters, on the other hand, just “survey” for the possible presence of radiation.

CSECO’s FV Series Fiberscope Inspection System and the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System are also considered superior compared to other scopes in the market. The FV Series Fiberscope provides a two-way articulation and has a fiber optic bundle which is protected by a heavy-duty tungsten coating that makes it fuel- and gasoline-resistant. It has a powerful light handle visibility which enables inspections in the evening or in dark places. With the addition of video camera and monitor upgrades, you can use the FV Series Fiberscope to record evidence while showing it to the other agents on screen at the same time.

The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope Inspection System has a large, multi-directional LCD monitor with a push-button dimming and digital zoom for clearer viewing. Unlike the fiberscope, the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope does not come with fiber optic glass fibers, it is less prone to damage and therefore doesn’t need costly and frequent repairs. The Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope also allows officers to see both the area being scanned while keeping an eye on their surroundings which keeps them safer.

Other manufacturers claim that their scopes are safe, but the Perfect Vision V20 Videoscope was the first to receive the “safety” certification from the Underwriters Laboratory, which means it can be used in high-risk areas like fuel tanks.

The cables that CSECO uses in their scopes are flexible and bendable. This enables them to be inserted into narrower, more limited and complicated spaces. It cannot be done with scopes of other manufacturers because their cables are rigid.

Not all narcotics interdiction equipment are the same. So why settle for anything less when you want your anti-drug and anti-smuggling operations to become more productive? Only CSECO will provide the right equipment for your narcotics interdiction needs.
