Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company (CSECO) is the home of the Buster K910G Density Meter, an update of the much-beloved Buster K910B. The Buster K910G retains much of the features of its predecessor which follows below.
Just like the Buster K910B, the new K910G uses the same technology. It still has the low-intensity gamma radiation and scintillation detector. This technology will enable the interdiction officers and other law enforcement agents such as the Customs and Border Protection agents to scan through different types of material such as fabric, cardboard, cushioning, wood, rubber, reinforced plastic and metal, as well as liquids and dirt. The Buster K910G’s detection abilities enable officers to achieve successful inspections.
The Buster K910G, like the K910B, has the ability to detect various types of contraband such as illegal drugs, cash, narcotics, alcohol, cigarettes, jewelry, and explosives. It can even detect dangerous amounts of radioactive leaks, through its “RAD-Aware” technology. This will help the first inspectors to establish safety, no-radioactive parameters for other inspectors and civilians.
For many years since its launch, the Buster K910B, now the K910G has been known to scan through materials and detect hidden contraband accurately. But there are certain limitations, and there are a few things that the Buster cannot accurately read.
The Buster cannot easily scan through a gas tank. This is because the gasoline makes getting accurate readings more elusive. One of the tricks interdiction officers do is to drain the tank a little so that the Buster is able to read more accurately. Or they scan each side of the tank or across the top of the tank to ensure more consistent readings within a normal range. The users should be experienced in order to recognize the nuances in the readings.
Normally, the Buster’s readings would go higher than usual, an indication that the contraband is present underneath or behind the surface being scanned. Lead, on the other hand, will bring the Buster’s readings much lower than normal and usually in single digits. Smugglers would wrap the contraband with lead lining, or would apply lead lining or plating in vehicles as an attempt to thwart contraband detection tools like the Buster. Officers can also use the Perfect Vision V20® Videoscope Inspection System when inspecting gas tanks.
Lead used to be an obstacle to the Buster’s accurate readings because it leads to abnormally low readings. But now it is seen as a useful indication that hidden contraband might be wrapped with lead lining.
The Buster K910G is now made more secure and safer to use. It is now designed more ergonomically to accommodate smaller hands (e.g., those of a female inspector). It also features a strap which maintains a tighter grip.
The lead-based components which are present in the K910B were removed in the K910B. This ensures safety not only for the user but for the environment as well.
Despite being hailed the “gold standard” in contraband detection like the previous Buster K910B Density Meter, CSECO never stops making improvements to make the K910G better, more accurate, safer, and more user-friendly.
