Campbell/Harris Security Equipment Company is the home of the Buster K910B Density Meter aka Buster, its signature product since 1984. It is considered by many law enforcement agencies across the United States to be the “gold standard” of contraband detection tools.
So how did the Buster get to be the best contraband detection equipment among all others on the market?
The Buster detects contraband using backscatter radiation. This technology allows the user to quickly scan for contraband that is hidden, depending on the matter of space being scanned. For instance, an average-sized vehicle is quickly scanned in less than five minutes. An average-sized room would require less than ten minutes.
This low intensity gamma radiation technology the Buster uses also differs from radio wave, ultra-violet wave, or millimeter wave technology that can scan through one or two types of surface. The Buster can scan a variety of materials that include wood, reinforced plastic, and metal up to a depth of six inches. This allows the user to scan through different types of material without externally destroying them. This is indeed a big change from drug interdiction and contraband detection prior to development of the Buster.
The Buster is also equipped with two types of alerts – an audible alert and a visual alert. The audible alert is perfect when the Buster is used with a telescoping stick, which, when attached to device, is called a “Buster on a Stick.” A hand-held display allows for visual alerts, allowing agents to pinpoint the location of contraband so it can be kept out of the hands of the drug-dealers and smugglers.
The Buster is also equipped with a special technology called the RAD-Aware. It allows first responders to establish safe perimeters in the event of a bomb or any radioactive release.
Each Buster K910B Contraband Detector unit comes with a calibration block. All units have a Calibration Unit Standard which allows other similar units to be calibrated (adjusted) to a common base, ensuring a +/-2% reading between units. Calibration will be calculated to automatically indemnify the decomposition of the source, as well as the declining quality of some internal parts or components.
The Buster is usually calibrated once every six months, but some people recommend that calibrating should occur once a month. All you have to do is to place the Buster on the calibration block, press and keep the trigger held. Then press the “lock + mode” button simultaneously; release hold of the buttons but keep the trigger held. As you are doing this, the Buster will release a beeping sound for about ten seconds. Once the Buster stops beeping, the user should press the “mode” button. In order that the Buster is reading appropriately, do a normal reading while it is still placed on the block. If the reading is between 95 to 105 it means that the Buster is reading correctly.
The process of calibration takes less than 30 seconds (in many cases it can be done as quickly and easily as 10 seconds) and can be performed any time by any user.
The Buster from CSECO is the best tool to come in the world of contraband detection, currently the number one density meter on the market today. It has been used, trusted, and recommended by law enforcement agencies in the United States and around the world as the best density meter available.
