Why a Hand-Held Density Meter Is More Accurate for Finding Contraband

First, check out the Buster's classic features that you've come to love: the low-intensity gamma radiation and scintillation detector. This kind of technology is what makes the Buster so effective in detecting and locating contraband.

There are also other density meters on the market but how accurate are they? The hand-held, portable Buster is known for its speed and accuracy. It takes four readings per second and is able to locate items buried up to six inches deep. Even if you move the Buster quickly along the investigated object, the Buster still retains its accurate readings.

Why does the Buster remain accurate even if it is moved quickly? It's because the Buster operates through a method called "backscatter radiation." When the Buster's trigger is pressed, the low-intensity gamma radiation beams go out of the device. The Buster acquires its readings when the gamma radiation "bounces off" of objects and beams back to the device. The moment the Buster detects a density that is higher than usual from the object that it scans, the higher the levels of gamma rays that will reflect back to the device, in comparison to through objects or reflecting something else.

The Buster can easily and accurately detect the changes in density as it moves along the object being inspected. For instance, when a normally hollow space (such as a car tire or car doors) is stuffed with contraband inside, the backscattering will reflect the gamma rays differently than it would when scanning an object with a normal density. This is where the Buster alerts the user through its audible and visual alarms.

Other contraband detectors use microwave, millimeter wave, radio wave, and ultraviolet wave when trying to locate and detect contraband. However, they could only find one or a couple types of hidden contraband, and these detectors are only able to scan through a limited number of surfaces. As a result, they are not always accurate in finding contraband.

The Buster, on the other hand, has the ability to scan through many kinds of materials -- wood, metal, reinforced plastic, concrete, water, dirt -- you name it! The Buster locates many types of hidden contraband such as narcotics, cash, weapons, and explosives.
